Our final four were James H, Ross M, Brendan N and Jesse R.
James was the first to strike; with A-10 against Ross, all-in with A-4. James' 10 played with a board of 3-Q-2-6-Q and Ross was knocked out for 4th place.

Jesse went on to dominated with A-6 against Brendan's A-7. He flopped two-pair A's and 6's, leaving Brendan with 3rd.

Jesse streak continued taking James out with pocket A's and claiming his second tournament win of the week.

Thursday Turbo Thriller!

Nice wee $10 Thursday Turbo tonight, with 24 players total.

Top 4 for the night were Jesse R, Sammy C, Alex R and Will S.

Will under the gun decides to shove all in with 36 to be called by Sammy who has AK. The flop comes out J-J-K. Very strong start for Sammy. Turn is a 2, Will is dead at this point but the river is another K just to rub it in deeper. Sammy takes out Will with a full house, K's over J's.

A few minutes later Sammy raises it pre-flop to 27K, around 4-5 BB and Jesse goes all in. Jesse is holding A4 and Sammy has KJ. The flop delivers K-Q-9, giving Sammy the lead. Turn is a T, this puts Sammy way ahead with a straight, Jesse needs a J for the nut straight.... But not so lucky, 9 on the river. Sammy takes another one out with a straight, K to 9. Jesse out on 3rd.

The final 2 switch chips back and forwards for a few hands before the killing hand. Alex goes all in with AQ and Sammy calls with A7. On the flop we get 2-9-A. Both hit but not the way Sammy wants. J on the turn and T on the river.Alex knocks Sammy out with a pair of A's, Q kicker. Well done Alex and thanks every one else!

Simon Say's "Thanks for Coming"

Tonight's Classic Poker Tourney brought in a lot of new faces and a total of 28 players playing for a prize pool of just under $2500!  Definitely a good tourney to be a part of as there were Classic Points awarded for busting out other players which could definitely help with the leaderboard standings!!

There was 5 prizes tonight. Pete H, Brendan N, Michael G, Will S and Simon G were the final 5 in for the money.

First to shove was Will with QQ.  Brendan could do nothing but call with TT.  Flop 8-4-2.  Looking good for Will so far.  2 comes on the turn.  Still anyone's game but Will still ahead.  Only a T can save Brendan now.  What a coincidence, T on the river to give Brendan the boat and a cheeky little double up courtesy of Will - maaaaate!

A few hands later will see one of the players exit the tourney in 5th.  Pete vs Simon holding A5 and AQ respectively. The cards to be revealed on the table are 6-7-2-T-2.  This will see Pete finish up in 5th possy.

Brendan with a nice stack pushes the lot into the pot with a reluctant call by Will.  Brendan's 3's to Will's 8's.  It may have been a good call by Will and the flop reveals 4-K-T, turning an A and the river an 8!  Will doubles up very nicely.

The demise of Brendan was only a matter of time.  This time for fourth place and once again up against Will.  Will had 5s and Brendan A8.  2-Q-Q-6-9, a miss for both and the 5's holding up.

Three players left and it was Michael's turn to fall to a heavy stacked Will.  His 89 wasn't enough for Will's KQ, especially when the community cards were T-4-T-4-6.  Michael did have a great run of bust outs and earned himself some extra points.

Only Will and Simon left, and with a deal for the prize money secured they carried on for points and placings.  Will decides to go all in with 78 and Simon answers "why not" with Q7...
J-4---3-----9---------J!

Well done Simon, taking away 1st place and giving us a new face for the blog!

Postscript:
It was our first Classic round with knockouts points in play and the top scorers for this round were Will, who earned a whopping 485 points including 6 knockouts, followed closely by Simon and Michael G both with 5 knockouts earning 440 and 430 points respectively.

The Unstoppable Avenger

This Thursday we had 21 players in the $10 Turbo.

Top 4 were Bryn N, Aaron McT, Damien L and James H.

Fourth place goes to Bryn, who is all in against Aaron preflop. Bryn is holding 52 and Aaron has AQ. The flop comes out 9-Q-T, putting Aaron ahead with a pair of Q's. Turn is a 2, giving Bryn more than a few outs. But unluckily the river is a 6. Bryn is out on 4th.

Next hand Damien is all in against Aaron, preflop again. Damien has QJ and Aaron A2. On the flop we get T-8-3. Turn is a 4 and river a K. Damien is out on 3rd and Aaron and James move to heads up!

We see a few flops here and there before we get to the final hand. James with J8 goes all in preflop with around $50k and Aaron calls holding QJ. The flop delivers us 5-7-5, then on the turn a T and the river is also a T. Aaron knocks out James with T's and 5's with a Q kicker. Well done Aaron!

2nd Wednesday Classic of 2016

Tonight we had a short field for the $2,000 guaranteed weekly tournament. 18 brave souls ventured in to play.

With the short field, we boosted the pot up to the guarantee. Top three got paid this week for $1000, $600 and $400. The final four came down to, Tumua, Evalyn, Ryan and Chris R.

Evalyn and Ryan went head to head, 3,3 vs 7,9. Ryan hit his seven on the flop and it was good enough to hold up. 7 A T T 5. There was a friendly deal for the bubble, so she didn't go home empty handed.

Tumua got a double up against Ryan in a big hand with AJ against KQ.  Ryan's stack was left crippled with around two BB. Chris got Ryan all in a couple of hands later, AT vs 6,7. Two pair came on the board, and the pot went to Chris' A high. Community cards: K 4 8 8 4.

Heads up was Between Tumua and Chris. Their final hand was all in pre, Q6 vs AT. Tumna looked good from the flop when his Queen hit, Q 5 J. The turn made him look even better, with another Queen. The river... Not so sweet for him.. A King came on the river, giving Chris an Ace high straight.

Well done to Chris on his first win for this Classic series.

3 Strikes and you're...In (the money)

24 players turned up for our weekly $10 Thursday Turbo tournament, playing for a prize pool of over $900.

Many were knocked out fairly early and before we knew it, we were down to the final table. The final four were Sam C, Danny W, Alex M and newcomer Johannes R.

Sam went all-in having just a little bit more than the blind. Holding Q2 off-suit, Danny calls with 10-5 off-suit. Danny wins with a pair of 5s sealing Sam's fate for fourth place.

The next to go all-in was newcomer Johannes. Pocket Qs were looking good, even against K-10 off-suit. Flop came down 6-K-8. With just A-7 coming up in the turn and river, the pair of Ks were enough for Danny to claim another victim.

Danny managed to go on and double up against Alex with Q-10 vs. A-J. A set of 10s on the flop and a Q on the river, his full-house put him well in front.

The final play was with Alex going all-in blind and Danny calling (also blind). Danny's J-6 was up against Alex's 8-4. Danny's third strike with a pair of Js took Alex out, winning the tournament.
Congrats Danny.

Return of The Classic: Classic V

The Classic V started tonight, bit of a slow start with only 18 players coming along. The top 3 were Chris S, Todd W and Aaron McT.

First knockout hand of the top 3 we have Todd go all in with A6 to be called by Aaron with A9. The flop comes out K-3-6. This puts Todd ahead but it's not over yet. The turn comes a 9. Good for Aaron, not so much for Todd. Todd needs another 6 to win. River runs out a T. Putting Todd out on 3rd and Chris and Aaron to top 2.

Final hand of the night Chris goes all in with J9 and Aaron calls with J5 spades. Flop comes out K-6-8. Chris slightly ahead for now. Turn comes out a 5... Not much Chris can get to win. On the river we get a J, giving Aaron 2 pair and 1st place! Chris out on 2nd. Well done Aaron!

Masters Games NLH Deepstack

This afternoon we hosted a masters games poker tournament, we had 19 players in for the medals and the glory. There were some bonus dining vouchers for those who placed, and a couple of DC hats as spot prizes.

The tournament started off quite slow, we only lost one player in the 1st hour of play. We quickly dwindled down to one table around the two hour mark. The blinds got too much for the small stacks and around three hours in we were down to the final four.

fourth place went to John G who was all in vs Charlotte with A2 vs A7. The flop managed to hit both the rag cards with: 7 2 6 out on the board, no more cards hit on the turn and river. John received a cap for the bubble.

The podium finishers were; James, Kirby and Charlotte

third went to James, he went out vs Kirby, J2 against KT. The board came out 3 4 J, 8, Kirby needed the King on the river..... And she got it!! well done, started and finished ahead.

Heads up was between Charlotte and Kirby. The play only lasted a couple of hands, with both players getting dealt *premiums* two hands in a row. The final hand, Charlotte went all in with TT and got called by Kirby with AK. A King came out on the flop, 7 J K and some insignificant rags came out on the turn an river, 6 8. After a double up on the previous hand, Kirby now had Charlotte covered and took the Gold!

Well done to James, Charlotte and Kirby on a well played tournament, and that concludes the first round of the NZ Masters Games Poker.   The next round is on Friday at 3:30pm, with the $20 freezeout final on Saturday, also with a 3:30pm start.
